Within a week after legend actor Dara Singh’s demise Indian super star Rajesh Khanna has passed away on July 18, 2012. Born on 29 December 1942, Rajesh was the first superstar in the Indian movie industry. The 70 year-old actor died on Wednesday afternoon in his residence Aashirwad, Mumbai. Rajesh Khanna shot to stardom in the 1960s, was declared the ‘superstar’ of Indian cinema.


Rajesh Khanna had been battling prolonged illness and finally had to bow down to it. The actor’s condition had been deteriorating since April when he stopped eating and complained of weakness. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital twice in the past month.

The actor was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. Due to extreme weakness and low blood pressure, the actor was on ventilator until his death.

At the time of his death his wife Dimple Kapadia, daughters Rinkie and Twinkle, son-in-law Akshay Kumar, grand children were present by his side.

An Indian wrestler Dara Singh started acting in 1952 and was the first sportsman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha. 6 feet 2 inch tall Dara Singh is known for his action roles in movies.


He has also worked as Hindi and Punjabi film producer, director and writer in his career. He is best known as the Hanuman in the television series based on the Hindu epic, Ramayan.

Born on November 19, 1928, Dara Singh was 83 when he died on July 12, 2012. He was admitted in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on July 7, 2012 following a cardiac arrest. He was released from hospital on July 11 on his family’s request. He died the following day, on July 12, 2012 in his home in Mumbai.
